Vaporwave is a music genre that originated in the early 2010s. It is characterized by its use of sampled material from 80s and 90s pop music, muzak, and other forms of easy listening music. It often employs heavy use of reverb, slow tempos, and chopped and screwed techniques. Vaporwave is also known for its distinctive aesthetic, which draws heavily from 80s and 90s internet culture, Japanese consumerism, and a general sense of nostalgia for the recent past.
